Making sure that the body is functioning well is very important for conception, pregnancy and labour to progress with as few symptoms as possible.

Most important are the sacrum, coccyx and lumbar vertebrae. All of the pelvic organs, including the uterus, receive their nerve and blood supply from these areas of the spine. The presence of strain in these areas can impact upon the mother's comfort.

Osteopathy may be helpful in addressing symptoms related to musculoskeletal conditions during pregnancy and labour, such as:

  • back pain
  • labour preparation
  • pelvic instability
  • pelvic girdle pain
  • neck and shoulder pain due to breastfeeding
  • post-natal care
